policies have left our small businesses tied up in uncertainty, and our economy bogged down by nearly 10% unemployment. >> today's town hall meeting is airing on cnbc. a live studio audience of about 200 people will be a cross section of america, everyone from college kids to union members to retirees. live in washington, i'm kate amara, wbal-tv 11 news. mindy, back to you. >> so kate, what are some of the issues the president will discuss during this town hall meeting? >> well, the folks at cnbc say the president will be taking questions from this live audience, as well as questions from viewers, who will be at several satellite locations around the country. they expect the top ex-of the questions to focus on issues ranging from the economy and stem husband to taxes, job growth, and the housing market. >> kate amara live in washington, thank you. >> a pair of deadly shootings sunday morning have police looking for answers and suspects. the first shooting happened just after 5:00 a.m. in the

1200 block of bonaparte avenue. a man was shot in the head. no word on a suspect or a possible motive. and then, just 15 minutes later, reports of shots fired brought police to the 2900 block of edgewood street. the victim, 26-year-old isaiah white, died of a gunshot wound to the back after reportedly getting into a fight downtown earlier the night before. police say they have several leads on this case, but so far, no one in custody. >> in anne arundel county, fire investigators trying to figure out what caused a home in edgewater to go up in flames. fire official say a second alarm had to be pulled before the blaze in the 4900 block of chalk point road could be contained. fortunately, nobody was hurt. >> elsewhere in anne arundel county, a water main break is forcing three area schools to close today. chesapeake high school, chesapeake bay middle school, and folger mckinsey will all be closed today due to a water main break. >> no one thought the ravens would necessarily go undefeated this season, but chances are fans didn't think their first

loss would come this soon. despite the defense holding the cincinnati bengals to field goals and only field goals, four interceptions thrown by joe flacco kept the ravens from putting many points on the board. final score, 15-10. keith mills will have a full recap later on in our newscast. it was a mixed bag for sports fans this weekend. with the ravens loss, there was an orioles win. either way, the games helped businesses come out on top. 11 news reporter kim dacey live at the stadium to tell us more. hi, kim. >> the orioles played here at camden yards this weekend, so, of course, o's fans turned out, but so did fans for their opponent, the new york yankees. yankees fans came in by the bus load for the weekend series. add in the ravens game, televised from cincinnati, and it created big business for anybody selling anything downtown, from hotel suites to shirts to spirits. thousands of sports fans came downtown to watch the team play. pickles pub across the street

from camden yards says this weekend was the busiest they've had all season, with more than $10,000 in sales. so business owners are happy, and the game fans, they had a good time, too, even sharing the town with some of their rival fans. >> you know, i really appreciate the yankee fans coming down. they're helping out the city, absolutely. i think we had a sellout, almost a sellout crowd last night and the night before. what i necessarily don't appreciate is just the actual fans themselves. the actual fans themselves. >> next year, the way the o's are playing right now, businesses are hoping again next year they won't need those yankee fans to meet their bottom line. keith mills will have much more on the games coming up later in sports. reporting live at camden yards, kim dacey, wbal-tv 11 news. >> you know, they could just mail their money to us, to our businesses here. >> i like that idea. great idea, stan. >> well, a detroit family says their 6-year-old daughter's cheering squad definitely didn't have the right spirit

and we're at 49 miles per hour on the top side outer loop right around the harrisburg expressway. building in volume as well on 95 coming out of the northeast. 52 on the west side outer loop. just as you get past 795, so far, so good leading up to the beltway. let's give you a live view of traffic. if you're traveling toward the fort mchenry. coming toward us is southbound traffic. still looks pretty good. no delays in the area of the fort mchenry tunnel. the harbor tunnel looks good, too. going away from us, focusing on southbound traffic, and still moving very well in the area of cookees mill. that's the latest on traffic pulse 11. >> taking a look at some of our top stories -- a fast-moving fire destroyed nearly a dozen homes in northern utah. as many as 15 homes burned down in the wildfire just north of salt lake city. at least 1,200 homes are under a mandatory evacuation right now, as more than 100 firefighters worked to try to extinguish the blaze. officials working in the gulf of mexico say they've sealed the busted deep water horizon oil well once and for all.

final pressure tests show government and b.p. officials, the top kill seal has capped the well that pumped millions of gallons of oil into the gulf for 87 days. despite the seal and efforts to disperse it, thousands of gallons of oil have recently been found in two-inch-thick patches that stretch for miles. and hurricane igor is battering bermuda this morning. the storm has already caused strong winds, beach erosion, and severe power outages throughout the island. the southern coast is expected to take the brunt with large waves and storm surges. up to nine inches of rain could fall. conditions are expected to improve today as the hurricane passes. >> in this morning's consumer alert, the summer travel season is over now, but gas prices are still going up. last week, the price per gallon for unleaded gasoline went up five cents to $2.64 in maryland. a.a.a. says this is due in part to the pipeline shootdown in the midwest, where stations saw

nearly 30 cent increases per gallon. by friday, the cost of crude oil dropped, which could help bring prices back down. the health of the housing market is once again a big focus of wall street. 11 news reporter jane king has the story and more in the morning's bloomberg business report. >> good morning. today investors are paying close attention to the home builders. this morning, a report from the national association of home builders expected to say the builder confidence improved slightly this month, though last month the index dropped to the lowest level in over a year. foreclosh you'res add to a glut of unsold homes, builders face many challenges. today we're also getting a financial report card from one of the nation's biggest home builders, lennar. as for trading back on friday, stocks closed higher. the s&p completing its longest weekly rally since april, and the bloomberg maryland index also rose. it was led by gains at united therapeutics and lockheed martin. possibly new charges for bank of america account holders. the "financial times" says they're going to try a new fee system that will reward

big rallies to energize the young voters who elected him two years ago. from washington, tracie potts, wbal-tv 11 news. >> a domestic violence call in fred i can ended in deadly gunfire. police say they were called to a home in the 200 block of south market street three times sunday morning. the third time they arrived, they were told 28-year-old lidsee was out of the house carrying a rifle. after tracking him down, police say cohen ford a shot. one officer fired several rounds back. police say when they found cohen, he was dead, but it's still not clear this morning if the deadly shot came from police or if it was self-inflicted. also out of frederick this morning, police have charged the father with trying to suffocate his 19-month-old son. responding to a call in the 100 block of fairfield drive late friday afternoon, police say they found 33-year-old alton ambush suffocating his child. after refusing orders to let the boy go, police forced ambush to release him. the toddler was treated at a hospital. ambush is charged with child abuse and assault. >> this morning, hopkins

officials say the doctor wounded in last thursday's shooting at johns hopkins hospital is improving. dr. david cohen has been upgraded to fair and stable condition after being shot in the abdomen after delivering news to 50-year-old paul pardus about his mother's medical condition. after shooting the doctor, pardus shot and killed his mother and then shot and killed himself. >> fall officially starts thursday, but for tv viewers, this fall season starts today. nbc is unveiling several new shows tonight, including the much anticipated thriller, "the event." marge barger brings us up to speed on the week ahead. >> echos of "rocky iv" on the season premiere of "chuck." dolf lundgren guest stars. >> think of all the incribbles things. >> ok, not really. he's playing a russian bad guy. >> he's still big and muscular and looks like he's 32. >> for the actor, maybe best known as ivan drago, it's a

putting any points on the board. final score, bengals 15, ravens 10. a detroit family says their 6-year-old daughter's cheering squad definitely didn't have the spirit when they kicked her off the team. jennifer tesch says she was shocked when her daughter kennedy came home from practice and demonstrated her routine for her. she says some of the cheers that described shaking their booties were inappropriate for 6-year-olds. after bringing her objections to the coach and g.m. of the squad, jennifer says kennedy was concluded off the team. >> and that brings us to your answers to our water cooler question of the day. a thaw morning, we asked, do you think a detroit cheering squad's choice of cheers is too racy for 6-year-olds? >> sandy writes, actually, i think the cheer is inappropriate for any age. what concerns me more is that all of these so-called adults who voted to keep the cheer are responsible in some way in shaping the children of tomorrow. after the publicity this has generated, i would be shocked if parents would allow their children to continue being cheerleaders. >> bethany writes, having not seen or heard the particular

last night that produced a couple of sprinkles, but nothing more than that. as a matter of fact, there's no precipitation along the front right now. so as it moves further away from us, all it's going to do is pull in nice, cool air mass from the north out of the southern part of canada. we can see a few high, thin clouds back behind the front, so we'll call it partly to mostly sunny today, but generally a nice monday. then the clouds you see on the edge of your screen there, that's the outer band, believe it or not, from igor. this is a huge storm. it's weaker, but, you know, it's about 600, 700 miles across almost. anyhow, it moved across bermuda last night as a category one hurricane. we didn't much damage reports, no catastrophic damage. it did have a big storm surge. it was carrying a huge wall of water with it, and it's moving away now, and we can finally say goodbye to igor. so for us here at home, partly to mostly sunny, breezy, nice. high temperatures this afternoon will be in the upper 70's. sun sets just about now at 6:52.

>> monday morning, back to school. how does it look on the roads? >> looks pretty good. we're seeing standard delays, and also fire department activity at parkville at paring parkway. be careful there. heaviest spot is the west side. 17 miles per hour there. you can see 24 on southbound 95 coming out of the northeast and starting to slow down now at harford road heading over delaney valley on the outer loop north side. but yeah, there's the heaviest spot that stretches from 795 all the way to edmonson. we can take a live view of that delay. we'll start with old court, and coming off the ramps is where we're seeing some backing. any time will do that. there you go, some delays. we'll switch over to a live view of traffic. 95 in the area of the beltway northeast, and that's where we're seeing some delays as well. so nothing really out of the ordinary.
